Hi Phil,
What a great idea! I’d love to use it with my son – what age do you suggest starting the moonjar? And do you have any tips about how much pocket money to give?
Thanks,
Megan.

Hi Phil,
Where can we get the “moonjars”? I understand there was something similar for sale at the Warehouse, but I can’t find it.
In Reply to Megan’s question about how much pocket money to give – Ian and Mary Grant, from Parents Inc., I believe recommend giving the children “half of their age” e.g. my 8 year old daughter gets $4 per week, and my 14 year old gets $7 per week.
Many thanks
Karen

Hi
Thanks for the comments. We now have Moonjars available to purchase online from the Wisemoney website – http://www.wisemoney.co.nz/moonjars
They’re just $10 each.
Karen – excellent comments about suggested pocket money. I was going to say the same thing.
Regards
Phil

Two great books to read about children and money are by Suzanna Stuart who is a NZ author, one is Your Family Fortune, the other Start Talking Sense.

Great idea. What are the boxes made of and how do they open?

I love your moneyjars concept! What a great idea!
I would personally encourage kids to use the “save” jar to save money to invest with. Let’s encourage our young to start investing at a young age. They can start with finding a bank account that offers them a high return for their money but just for a start. After that, as they watch their money increase through compounding interest we can encourage our kids to use that saved money to make their money work for them in other entrepreneurial ways.
My favourite moonjar is the “share” moonjar, I truly believe in the Law of Attraction and by teaching our children to give we are also teaching them to receive. That is a life lesson that will help them through all of their endevours and challenges. Once they figure out that by giving out to the universe the best that they have they will also receive the best then they will learn to cope with any storm and to know that even in times of hardship they must continue to give in order to receive.
Happy Saving, Investing and Sharing!

Hi All,
I wanted to let everyone know that moonjars are available through their website Moonjar.com, or by phone order 1.888.323.0001. I have found that they also have great conversation starters for families. Best wishes to your family.
