Darren completed a Bachelor of Commerce and Management at Lincoln University specialising in property valuation and management.  After spending time in the real estate industry in 1995 he joined a mortgage broking business and became one of the first specific Mobile Mortgage Brokers based in Christchurch.

In 1997 Darren set up Canterbury Home Loans and established The Home Loan Group (NZ) Ltd.  The creation and highly successful operation of Canterbury Home Loans served as a model for a regionalised franchise system which is unique in New Zealand.  Using tried and tested operating systems, a custom-designed database and innovative marketing ideas coupled with a total commitment to excel, the Home Loan Group (NZ) Ltd and all of its franchises have become industry market leaders.

Darren moved to Auckland in 2001 to become the owner of Auckland Home Loans, central and now has franchises on the Northshore and in West Auckland.  As owner of the Home Loan Group (NZ) Ltd Darren oversees the operation of 22 consultants and 8 offices around New Zealand.

In 2007, Darren then was appointed the Vice Chairman of the New Zealand Mortgage Brokers Association and then in 2008 he was appointed as Chairman, Darren is ready for his next challenge leading the industry through challenging times in a slower market and one requiring strong fundamentals for mortgage brokers.
 
Interests include tennis, jet skiing and multisport, and in 2007 Darren completed the 2-day Coast to Coast event.
