Firstly I want to thank you for the Money Man show. I love TV shows on money. I think a lot of people can learn from them. I realize the show just covers basic money management practices but I need further education. My problem is property investments.
I really want to buy investments properties and rent them out. I’ve studied the Rotorua property market and even though it is cheaper than Auckland I still can’t make money. I’m wanting a property that will pay for itself through its rental income. By the time I take mortgage repayments, rates and insurance costs out of a rental income I still need at least $100 per week of my own money to pay for it (and that without maintenance cost). I recently sold my brand new house and have $207,000 cash. I have invested the money in Bonus bonds and have since won $300 in May and $600 in June. I was considering buying a property in Wanganui where I now live but just decided will only be here for another year so I don’t want to do this. Can you advise what I can do with this money?
